Salt Lake City FAQs
General
PLUNJ is a Nordic style bathhouse that strives to straddle the line between utility and luxury. Our Salt Lake city bathhouse features a locker room (male / female), and two studio areas, each consisting of a dry sauna, cold plunge pool, bucket shower, lounge chairs, and beverage station. You're free to experience each on your own timing and rotation during a 60-minute session.
We offer contrast therapy through deliberate and safe exposure to extreme temperatures, switching between our dry (electric) sauna and cold plunge pool. Our studios include bucket showers, lounge chairs, and beverage stations. Men's and women's locker rooms feature showers, changing areas, and toilet rooms with soap, shampoo, and personal care items. Don't forget to bring your own swimwear!
Contrast therapy is a type of treatment done through deliberate and safe exposure to extreme temperatures, such as switching back and forth between a sauna and a cold plunge. It provides many physical and mental health benefits.
Traditionally, bathhouses have been a center of the community. PLUNJ is meant to be a social gathering place. We encourage guests to please be mindful of others' experiences, use indoor voices when talking, and keep conversations appropriate. Any and all unwanted advances will be dealt with immediately.
Parking is easy and free! We have three parking options: Covered Parking - Bowers Garage: Enter on the NW or SE side of the Bowers Residences. Parking is most readily available on the 2nd floor. Exit to the ground level where you'll see an orange bird mural, then head toward the hanging "PLUNJ" sign on the North side of the building. Street Parking: Utopia Ave (North side only) and Richards St (East and West sides). Paved / Dirt Lot Parking: Bowers Way.
Clothing is mandatory. Most guests wear swimwear or something they feel comfortable getting wet in. All swimwear should be appropriate for a public communal space.
PLUNJ is intended to be a tech-free space. Leaving your device in your locker provides the best experience. Refrain from playing music, watching videos, or talking on the phone. Before taking any photography or video of yourself or others, request permission from everyone in the group.
Yes. The local health department regulates usage by minors. No children under the age of 14 years are permitted at any time. Minors 14 – 17 must be accompanied by an adult and require a parent / guardian consent waiver.

Listen to your body! If you begin to shiver, your heart rate is increasing or your breathing is affected, it's time to get out and get warm. Research suggests that 30 seconds to 3 minutes is optimal, and it's more effective to do shorter plunges more regularly than one long plunge.
Listen to your body! Warning signs of overheating include tingling in the fingers, ears, and skin, and/or hyperventilation. Research suggests that 10-15 minutes at a time in the sauna is optimal, and anything over 19 minutes per session may be too much.
PLUNJ is not a medical facility. Consult with your health care professional about specific considerations about hot / cold exposure. Sauna contraindications include cardiovascular disease, cardiac arrhythmia, blood pressure extremes, fever, cancer, skin disorders, blood clots, varicose veins, and respiratory infections. Cold water contraindications include untreated myocardial hypertrophy, coronary artery disease, chest pain, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular problems. If you are pregnant, consult your doctor before using the sauna and cold plunges.
